We are thrilled to announce Tarryn’s promotion to Project Manager at Shenton Group, just ten months after joining as Project Manager Assistant. Since January Tarryn has quickly become a valuable member of our Projects team, consistently demonstrating her dedication, innovative thinking, and high standards within the remit of her role. This well-deserved promotion recognises her contributions and will see Tarryn continue to bring her expertise and commitment to our projects.
Tarryn’s Journey: From South Africa to the UK
Tarryn’s professional journey is an inspiring tale. Her passion for project management first began in South Africa where over a number of years she developed a wealth of experience in managing complex projects in challenging environments which naturally developed her resilient work ethic. After moving to the UK from South Africa in 2018 with a young family, Tarryn redirected her career focus into becoming a successful self-employed photographer which allowed her to indulge another of her passions while supporting her family in their adjustment to their new home. It wasn’t long however before Tarryn started to feel the pull of the fast-paced energy that comes with project management. She sought a role that would allow her to showcase her strengths with the opportunity for growth which culminated in Tarryn joining Shenton Group as a Project Manager Assistant.
Reflecting on her journey, Tarryn shares:
“I pursued this role because it aligns with my long-term career goals and allows me to apply my experience in South Africa’s built environment to Shenton Group’s UK-based projects.”
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Tarryn has been actively working towards her Prince 2 certification in her spare time demonstrating her passion for personal growth and her drive to deliver project solutions for Shenton Group.
Thriving in a Male-Dominated Power Industry
The power generation industry has typically been male-dominated, with women comprising only 16% of the global energy sector workforce. In the UK, women account for just 29% of board positions in the top energy companies, with only 16% of executive roles held by women. This highlights the importance of creating opportunities for women to excel in traditionally male-dominated fields and the responsibility on employers to encourage and promote diversity within their organisation.
At Shenton Group, we are proud to champion inclusion and equality. Our commitment to fostering diversity ensures that the best talent is recognised and rewarded based on merit and we’re delighted to have Tarryn represent these principles.
On a more personal note Tarryn herself takes pride in demonstrating to her daughters the value of resilience, ambition, and hard work, proving that women can excel and lead in any field.
Driving Excellence in Power Projects
In her new role as Project Manager, Tarryn will oversee several exciting projects, including:
- The construction and delivery of generators of various sizes across residential and manor house developments.
- The development and implementation of a Stage 5 engine with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), into a 16-story student housing apartment building.
Known for her proactive leadership and clear communication, Tarryn ensures that every project runs smoothly, meeting client expectations while upholding Shenton Group’s reputation for excellence.
Tarryn emphasises the importance of teamwork and collaboration in decision-making. These qualities support Shenton Group’s passion to deliver innovative power generation solutions and inspire confidence in our clients.
Shenton Group: Committed to Inclusion and Equality
At Shenton Group, inclusion and equality are core principles driving our success. We are proud to have a growing number of women in operational, management, and leadership roles, representing our commitment to excellence both within our organisation and within the power generation industry.
Our culture of supporting a diverse and inclusive workplace ensures that every individual brings value and has the opportunity to thrive within their role. Our belief in hiring the best person for the job enables us to deliver innovative solutions while building a team that reflects the values of our clients and society at large.
Looking Ahead
Tarryn’s promotion marks a significant milestone in her career and underscores Shenton Group’s commitment to recognising and rewarding talent. As she takes on her new responsibilities, we are confident that Tarryn will excel and contribute significantly to our ongoing success.
Please join us in congratulating Tarryn on this well-deserved achievement. Her story is a reminder of what can be accomplished with grit, vision, and support from a collaborative team.
