BACKGROUND
Having worked on a number of projects previously for this global retail client, Shenton Group was again appointed to design, supply and install the standby power solution. The new store located in Greenwich was designed to be 80% more energy efficient than the current building standard requirements with a BREEAM rating of outstanding. Having worked with the consultant during the design stage, Shenton Group entered into a contract with the M&E contractor to deliver the generator element of the 9 Million pound mechanical and electrical package.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Considering the site loads, Shenton Group supplied an 825kVA generator with a prime power output of 750kVA. To ensure that the required noise levels were achieved, the generator was installed within a bespoke enclosure that rated a noise level of 70 dB(A) @ 7 meters whilst running at 100% load. Located within the generator base frame was a 1600 litre fuel tank that would enable a run time of 13 hours @ 75% load. Due to the nature of the installation, a further 7000-litre bulk fuel tank was required to allow the store to run for more than 48 hours in the event of a prolonged mains power outage. With space being at a premium, the generator was installed directly on top of the bulk fuel tank to minimise the footprint of the overall installation. Other aspects of the solution included a complex fuel transfer system, load bank connection point and completing the first fill of fuel of the generator and bulk fuel tank.
Once installed, the complete installation underwent vigorous site acceptance testing and commissioning to ensure it was fully integrated with the buildings switchgear. The installation is now covered by a Shenton Group Powercare Premier maintenance contract which includes two service visits a year and 24/7 remote monitoring.
The client is now assured that they have a reliable backup power solution in place to support their site when they need it.
