Overview

Supplying performance components to demanding international clients, The Doncaster Group’s Burton upon Trent offices provide a disaster recovery base for another part of the business. Contractor Specialist Power Systems commissioned Shenton Group to provide the Power Call ‘Power in the Hour’ emergency generator service, to ensure that the client now has a reliable, backup power strategy in place.

Problem

With international clients spanning the aerospace, gas turbine, specialist automotive, petrochemical, industrial, and transport markets, The Doncaster Group must have continuous power supplies in order to maintain a number of critical business processes.

Requiring a continuous power solution as part of a disaster recovery strategy for another part of the business, a UPS was already installed in the server room by Specialist Power Systems to deal with any ‘glitches’ or ‘shorts’. However, the business required a standby power solution to provide additional back-up for an array of servers.

The optimum solution for emergency power at the site would have potentially been a permanently installed generator. But, because the premises are leased and with landlord approval proving a barrier, Shenton Group’s Power Call, power on-demand generator service was chosen instead of a permanent on-site generator set.

Solution

The contractor, Specialist Power Systems, commissioned Shenton Group to provide the Power Call emergency generator service. Having a number of strategically placed depots throughout the UK, in the event of any power outage, a Shenton Group engineer can be dispatched with an emergency generator, providing ‘Power in the Hour’.

Shenton Group Strategic Director, Richard Meek, describes how Power Call is the ideal solution for The Doncaster Group: “When a permanent generator set is not ideal; when costs, or landlord restrictions are an issue, Shenton Group’s 24/7 Power Call service is a viable solution. Once Shenton Group engineers have installed a weatherproof plug on the most accessible part of a building, the emergency generator can be rapidly despatched and connected. Providing a three hour money back guarantee, and with 23 minutes being Shenton Group’s current record, The Doncaster Group are certainly in good hands with Power Call”.

Tony Quince, Technical Director at Specialist Power Systems commented: “We offer a range of UPS and standby systems but, for this client, a permanent on-site solution was not possible. The Power Call solution from Shenton Group enables us to offer a full power solution service to our clients when an installed generator is not a suitable option.”

Outcomes

The Doncaster Group can continue to serve its rich array of international clients and with no breaks in business continuity, thanks to having a robust continuous power supply solution in place.

In the event of any mains power outages, a Shenton Group engineer will be on site, connecting and switching over to an emergency generator within the hour.
