Security Pack
Scorpion Power Systems have developed a security package to suit all our Powerhouse Generators
Increasing vandalism and malicious damage calls for practical and cost effective solutions. Scorpion Power Systems have developed a security package to suit all our Powerhouse Generators, greatly increasing their resistance to unauthorised entry.
The package includes a strong steel mesh cover for the instrument viewing window and substantial locking bars that restrain the access doors even if the standard locks are overcome.
The package is completed with an internally mounted emergency stop button preventing mischievous or accidental operation.
Over 20 years experience has shown Scorpion that emergency stop button activation is the most common reason for standby Generators not performing.
Fuel Tank Bund
Scorpion Power Systems offer fully compliant compact bunds for all our Powerhouse Generators
Since March 2002 the Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) Regulations 2001 have been in force with increasing obligations for site operators and owners. By September 2005 all commercial storage facilities in excess of 200 litres capacity must have had a ‘second containment’ capable of holding at least 110% of the maximum tank capacity.
Scorpion Power Systems offer fully compliant compact bunds for all our Powerhouse Generators that are complete with fork truck pockets for easy location. Cleverly designed rain covers complete an attractive and functional package that meets and exceeds the legal requirement.
Fire Shutdown System
The Scorpion fire shutdown system provides additional safety
Although fire within a Generator enclosure is an extremely rare occurrence, where the Generator is sited within a building or an area particularly vulnerable to malicious damage, it is wise to take particular precautions. The Scorpion fire shutdown system provides added safety, by incorporating a temperature sensor within the Generator enclosure linked to the Generator’s control system.
Should the temperature sensor detect that the inside of the enclosure has become uncharacteristically hot, it will send a signal to the control system processor, which immediately recognises the fault and shuts down the fuel supply to the engine. The sensor is set at the ultimate temperature of 90°C, so as not to cause nuisance tripping during normal operation.
Remote Monitoring
Scorpion Power Systems offer a comprehensive range of remote monitoring facilities from simple remote annunciator panels through to volt free contacts and SNMP adaptors, integration with BMS systems, SMS text and email notification. Bespoke systems can be tailored to the customer’s requirements.
Lightning and Surge Protection
Unlike similar devices that are often installed out of view, the integrated lightning and surge protector device is installed into an existing power protection system that incorporates an LCD display, so that there is a visual alarm to show that the surge protector has been triggered.
Anyone managing a network knows that electrical transients and voltage surges can happen anywhere, at anytime, and are totally unpredictable. If the power to servers is affected through mains borne transient voltages, software, data and equipment can be corrupted causing havoc in systems. Protectors on a main power supply can save data by avoiding a crash or power problem during which a corruption could occur.
Scorpion Power Systems’ lightning and surge protector has been designed to provide comprehensive protection at a reasonable cost. Installed at the electrical incomer of a building, the system provides suppression from mains borne voltage spikes (high pulses of energy) and surges that can occur between phases to neutral, phase to earth and neutral to earth.
- Easily installed
- Single or three phase options
- Can be expanded within building management systems
- Approved to BS EN 9000
- No maintenance
- Should be monitored by LCD display
Using high-energy absorption elements, protection is achieved which carefully match the lightning and surge protector. This allows the protector to behave like a short circuit during a transient over voltage, shorting out the transient voltage and allowing the transient current to flow through it. Equipment connected ‘downstream’ should also be protected locally to achieve total surge protection.
Engine Heater
To improve Generator starting characteristics
To improve Generator starting characteristics, Scorpion Power Systems can also incorporate an engine water jacket heater. Designed to keep the engine at optimum temperature for fast and efficient ignition and rapid load acceptance, the water jacket heater also helps reduce emissions and wear and tear on the engine during starting. The engine water jacket heater is thermostatically controlled and powered from dedicated AC power terminals via the auto mains failure (AMF) control panel.
Powerhouse Control Systems
Scorpion’s expertise is in making the right selection of control systems for each application
Over 20 years of experience in a rapidly changing world has provided Scorpion Power Systems with the expertise to identify, manufacture and commission the widest range of user-friendly control systems.
From simple key-start systems providing basic protection against catastrophic engine failure, through to multiple set synchronising.
Scorpion’s range of control systems includes remote start units, automatic mains failure units, ‘Sensomatic’ start-ondemand systems, and fully G59 compliant synchronising load share and no-break-return systems.
Scorpion’s expertise is in making the right selection of control systems for each application, adding the flexibility of specific features that only a true design and build control system manufacturer can provide.
Detailed specification often includes remote monitoring facilities by volt free contacts, with auto dialler or our own Hawkeye off site monitoring and test system. Lightning and surge protection systems can be incorporated providing a robust package for your critical power systems. Bypass systems and integrated changeover/LV panels are regularly designed and built, with many panels available from stock or on very short lead times.

Bulk Fuel Tanks
“The Environment Agency believe that unbunded and inadequately bunded fuel stock is 5 times more likely to have a pollution incident.”
DEFRA Regulations, 2001
Scorpion Power Systems provide a complete range of fully approved bulk fuel tanks, either from our standard plastic range of tanks, from 1220 litres – 5000 litres, or our purpose built steel tanks manufactured to specific requirements.
Scorpion’s range of polyethylene tanks are OFTEC and DEFRA certified and represent a cost effective solution to comply fully with the latest Environment Agency regulations.
Scorpion steel tanks can be either free standing or manufactured as an integral base tank for long run applications where space is limited. Steel tanks are double skinned built to BS799 type J.

Phoenix Panels
Designed to facilitate a dual mains supply to a critical piece of machinery or plant
Phoenix dual mains panels are designed to facilitate a dual mains supply to a critical piece of machinery or plant. In the event of supply ‘A’ failing or going under voltage, the panel will transfer the load over to supply ‘B’. On restoration of supply ‘A’, the panel will transfer the load back to supply ‘A’.
The Phoenix dual mains automatic changeover panels have been specifically designed to meet building regulations B5 and section 20 of the London Building (Act) Amendment Act 1939 and BS5585-5 section 4, relating to fire precautions in the design, construction and the use of buildings.
The panels are of sheet metal construction housing necessary changeover devices, sensing and control equipment. The front door mounts indication lamps, showing switch status and a key switch to facilitate testing. The panel changeover device provides electrical and mechanical interlocking and meets the requirements of BSEN60947-6-1
