Fixed Wire Testing
Fixed Wire Testing (FWT) is fast becoming a statutory requirement of many insurance companies
Routine FWT can potentially save considerable sums of money and costly breakdowns
An often overlooked but extremely important area of inspection and maintenance is the testing of the Fixed Wiring within your building.
Fixed Wire Testing (FWT) is fast becoming a statutory requirement of many insurance companies ie. No FWT Certificate, No insurance. No Insurance, No business.
Fixed Wire Testing as the name suggests is a test of all the low voltage (<600V) wiring, safety systems, protective device setting, earthing, continuity, cable marking etc in a building.
A periodic inspection can reveal a great deal of information about the condition of the wiring, safety systems and existing or developing faults.
As an integral part of your maintenance routine FWT can potentially save considerable sums of money and costly breakdowns, consider the disruption and business risk of electrical fires, injury, death and possible litigation.
Periodic Inspection
British Standard 7671 and the IEE Regulations give guidance on the maximum period between inspections.
Commercial Buildings/Hospitals/Industrial - 5 years
Cinemas/Churches/Restaurants/Hotels/Theatres - 1 year
Leisure Complexes/Places of public entertainment - 1 year
Petrol Filling Stations - 1 year
FWT Results
After completing a period inspection we produce a detailed easy to read report with full supporting documentation outlining any departures from the regulations and recommendations for corrective actions. If any part of the building wiring is found to be unsafe you would be advised immediately.
Schematic Diagrams
The older a building is the more changes and modifications are made to the wiring infrastructure. This often results in electrical schematic drawings becoming out of date and non-representative of the actual building wiring.
Following the FWT we produce a detailed circuit schematic diagram of the circuits and devices that have been tested.
This is available to our customers for them to keep as a reference document.
